Nursing Home Safety: Illinois Task Force Sets Hearing For Tuesday
In Illinois – Gov. Pat Quinn’s new Nursing Home Safety Task Force will hear testimony from elder care advocates, service providers and residents in an open, public meeting Tuesday.
It also announced a Web site — NursingHomeSafety.Illinois.gov – that takes citizens’ comments and recommendations.

Nursing Home Safety
“All of us have a role to play in ensuring the safety and well-being of nursing home residents, and we urge the public to join us in this critical work,” said Michael Gelder, task force leader and senior health policy adviser. “We need to hear from all of Illinois to meet this challenge.”
The task force was formed in response to a Chicago Tribune investigation, called “Compromised Care,” that detailed cases in which elderly and disabled nursing home residents were allegedly assaulted, raped and even killed by mentally ill criminals also living in the facilities.
Tuesday’s meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the Thompson Center, Room 16-503, 100 W. Randolph St., Chicago. Audio will be streamed live over the Internet at state.il.us/streaming/gov/nursing-home-safety.asx
