To Profit Or Not To Profit – Which Are Better Care Homes?

Interesting article in www.naplesnews.com a local paper in Florida, which cites a study of state inspection records to state that not-for-profit care homes deliver a higher quality of care than their for-profit counterparts.

The study, conducted by examining the care homes ratings reports for the 28 nursing homes in the Naples, Florida area of which 64% are privately owned care homes , cited factors such as the fact that privately-run care homes run with approximately 1.5 hours  per day resident/staff ratios whilst their not-for-profit care home counterparts run at a rate of 1.6 hours per resident/staff ratios.

In terms of overall score, the for-profit care homes achieved an average of 2.2 stars whilst their not-for-profit counterparts achieved an average of 3.2 stars.
